CASER LAUNCHES PROJECT UPRNIGERIA
A Tracking Mechanism for Enhancing Nigeria’s Fulfilment of its Commitments to the United Nations Human Rights Council, to Improving the Human Rights Situation in the Country

During the 3rd Review Cycle of the UPR-Universal Periodic Review, at the 31st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Nigeria made a number of Commitments (240 Supported Recommendations) to improving the Human Rights Situation in the country.

CASER, by privileged membership of the Federal Government’s Inter-Ministerial Committee on the 3rd Review Cycle of the UPR of Nigeria, participated in all the stages of the review process from Reporting, Consultation, Presentation and to final Adoption of Nigeria’s National Report on the 14th of March, 2019, at the 40th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

CASER hereby launches the Project UPR-Nigeria as an ancillary, citizens based initiative to realising Nigeria’s Human Rights Commitments through a cooperative approach with all the stakeholders in Human Rights promotion in Nigeria.

CASER will rely on the financial support of its members, being its traditional, individual donor base made up of ordinary and well-meaning Nigerians, to fund this initiative.

Where possible, CASER shall also obtain grants from institutional donors to sustain this programme up to the next review cycle of the Human Rights situation in Nigeria.

CASER will begin the implementation of the Project UPR-Nigeria initiative immediately.
